Resting Time 25 minutesminutes
Total Time 35 minutesminutes
Serving Size 60grapes
Equipment
1 large microwave-safe bowl
1 toothpick/skewer
1 fork
Ingredients
1poundgrapes(1 lb, 453g), washed and dried, room temperature
1 ¼cupdark chocolate chips(200 g), or any chocolate chips of choice
¼cuptoppings of choice(I used hemp seeds, sesame seeds, and coconut flakes but feel free to use any other toppings such as crushed nuts, or even flaked sea salt)
Instructions
Preparations
Make sure that you've thoroughly dried the grapes since otherwise, you won't get a smooth chocolate coating.
Then make sure that your grapes are at room temperature. If they're cold, microwave them at 15-second increments until they are about at room temperature.Cold grapes will solidify your chocolate so please do not skip this step to make your life easier! ;)
Melt the Chocolate
Place the chocolate chips in a large microwave-safe bowl and microwave them, first for 30 seconds. If your microwave has a power greater than 900 Watt or heats food much faster than other microwaves, start at 50% of the capacity so you don't burn your chocolate.
Repeat microwaving the chocolate in 15 to 30-second increments until almost all chocolate chips are melted. Stir in between rounds.
Dipping Time
(Optional) If you're using seeds/crushed nuts, spread them onto a small bowl.
Use a toothpick to pierce through a grape. Then dipthe grape into the melted chocolate, holding on to the toothpick, such that about half of the grape is covered in chocolate.
(Optional) If using the nuts/seeds toppings, gently pat the bottom part of the chocolate-covered grape onto the seeds/nuts.
Slot the toothpick in between the fork tines (the pointy parts of the fork used to pierce through food), making sure that the grape is positioned below the fork. Then use the fork to push down the grape onto a lined baking sheet (see the pictures in the blog post above if this is not clear).
Repeat until all grapes are covered
Place in the refrigerator to cool down for at least 25-30 minutes. Or freeze them for some chocolate covered frozen grapes!
Notes
Notes
Microwaving - Start low on the microwave time to prevent burning the chocolate. Remember that you can always microwave further, but you can't turn back a burnt chocolate.
Toothpick - If you don't have a toothpick, you can use a skewer or any other pointy object to pierce through the grape.
Another option is to just place all the grapes into the melted chocolate, then stir to coat evenly. Use a spoon to line each individual grape on a baking sheet, making sure that they don't touch. Add the optional toppings, then chill in the fridge.
