Melt your dark chocolate chips using a double boiler. If you are unfamiliar with a double boiler, simply boil water in a small saucepan, reducing it to a low simmer once the water has reached boiling point. Then put a large heat-proof bowl on top of the saucepan. The bottom of the bowl should fully cover the saucepan, and it should NOT touch the water. Add the chocolate chips into the bowl. The steam from the saucepan will melt the chocolate chips. See notes for more info. 1/4 cup (45 grams) dark chocolate chips
Measure out your orange juice accurately. Then blend for about 10-15 seconds to first aerate the juice, until the orange juice doubles in volume.
1/2 cup (120 ml) orange juice, from 2 medium oranges
Gradually add the melted chocolate chips and vanilla extract into the blender. Blend further for 1-2 minutes, depending on the power of your blender. You want to blend long enough until the mixture becomes very very smooth, without any visible grain. It should look like a smooth chocolate milk.
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Taste test and see if you would like more sweetness, then add the agave syrup accordingly. This highly depends on how sweet the orange juice and your dark chocolate chips are. Blend for 5-10 more seconds if you add the liquid sweetener.
1 teaspoon agave syrup
Transfer to 2 small serving glasses, then chill in the fridge for at least 4 hours, but preferably overnight.
Serve with the optional (vegan) yogurt, crushed almonds, and orange zest on top. Enjoy!
