Ingredients

  • 2 slices whole wheat bread
  • 1 Tablespoon hummus, vegan butter, or vegan cream cheese optional
  • ½ teaspoon marmite

Instructions

  • Toast: Toast the bread. If you need more info on how to do this, check the recipe note below.
  • Spread: If you're using hummus, butter, or cream cheese, use a knife to spread a thin layer to your warm and freshly toasted bread.
I like to spread only a thin layer but feel free to add more if you like it that way.
  • Spread marmite: Dip your knife into the marmite jar, take it out and let the excess marmite drip. Then spread a very thin layer of marmite onto your buttered toast. You want a very thin layer such that you can still see some parts that are not dark brown (you do NOT want your toast to be fully covered with marmite). Refer to the pictures above to see how it's supposed to look.
  • Serve: Either close them up to make a sandwich, or eat the slices open-faced. Both are delicious!

Notes

Notes
  • Three options to toast your bread:
    • Use a toaster
    • Bake it in the oven for 2-3 minutes at 350℉ or 180℃ until golden brown. They should be crispy on the outside, but still soft on the inside.
    • Toast it in a pan on medium heat for 2-3 minutes until golden brown.
  • Refer to the pictures in the blog post above to check how much Marmite you want to be putting on your toast.
Hint: it's a VERY thin layer, and you do NOT need an even spread Marmite. Remember that a little bit goes a long way and you can always add more later if you would like.
  • The calorie count displayed is based on using hummus. It will vary depending on the spread you're using.
